This was my second time bow hunting and my first buck ever. I was hunting in Dubuque IA on a 1000 acre farm. It was November 5th and I had been hunting since the season opened on October 1st, but had no luck. One day, I decided to do an afternoon hunt and I got set up in my stand around 3:00pm. I set up three curiosity scents at about 25 yards from my sand to try and lure something out. The stand over looked an alfalfa field where does frequently visited from time to time. As I sat in the stand, there wasn't much action except for the squirrels running from branch to branch above my head. It was about 1/2 an hour til sunset and I stood up to look behind me to see if anything was coming. As I looked, I heard a snort in the field and as I turned a spike had caught my movement and ran off. Thinking I was done for, I began to pack my bag to get ready to go. As I finished packing my bag with my calls, I heard some movement in the brush and out comes this wide 5x5. The deer came out and began to walk away from me and I had no shot. Then as he turned into the field, he caught the scent I put out and went straight to it. In no time the deer was 25 yards from me and was quartering away. I took the shot and hit him right behind his right shoulder. He didnt run more than 60 yards. The deer scored 139.
