I hunkered down and waited

Hi guys. I saw your show for the first time about a month ago. I've been dvr-ing it ever since. It honestly is one of my favorites on TV.

I saw the hog hunting show you guys did and I wanted to send in a picture of one of my recent hogs. I've been bowhunting for about 9 years now but I decided this year I want to take a whitetail with a recurve bow. I've been practicing as much as I can and I really wanted to get all the jitters out before the first whitetail stepped out in front of me. I decided chasing hogs would help me with that.

This picture is from a hunt this summer on public land in Oklahoma. I spotted a group of pigs while working my small boat up a creek. I banked the boat and made about a 350 yard stalk to the pigs. The wind was perfect, slow and steady right in my face. I positioned myself behind a few willows that were growing along the bank. While I waited I had a small boar come out into the open at about 25 yards. With my Mathews Outback that would be a dead pig! It took all the discipline I had to remind myself that 25 yards is just barely out of my effective/ethical shooting range. I hunkered down and waited for a closer shot. As luck would have it the group of pigs worked my way and I had a perfect broadside shot at about 15 yards on this nice Oklahoma hog.

It may not be a trophy hog in most people's books but it was my first big game with the old stick and string. It was a very memorable hunt. I am really feeling the traditional bug for the upcoming deer season and can't wait to take my first whitetail with traditional archery!

Thanks for the great show. Keep up the great filming!!!
