just big enough to dwarf his....

This buck meant a lot for several reasons. For one, it was one that was a simple, by the book, kind of hunt and there were no suprises...other than him showing up. It was mid November of 2008 when I saw him and another REALLY nice 12 point chasing a doe from about 150 yards away from my stand. It was simple dumb luck that the doe decided to hang a right and come in the same general vicinity as me, and she slowed down to a graze at about 70 yards out. At this point, it was just her and the 8 point so I decided to throw a "hail mary" grunt, and that was just enough to get that buck on defense mode and it made him go looking for that grunt. Disappointing enough for him, I was the "the other buck" and I plugged him at 25 yards broad side...needless to say he didn't go far. The other reason, and by far the best part, was being able to have my dad just a couple ridges over so I could share the entire hunt with him. A successful hunt alone isn't half as satisfying as being able to have the guy you taught you everything you know about hunting be there with you. The buck scored 138 4/8...just big enough to dwarf his 137 6/8 10 point he shot later! Both shot in Iowa.
