Her 2nd Deer

This deer was taken by my daughter on opening weekend, November 2, 2008. Lourrin was 13 at the time. We went to hunt opening day in Jacksboro, TX but never saw anything due to the heat at around 90 degrees. Upon our return home, we took a chance and stopped at a 100 acre hay field where we set up near Marion, TX. We were at the end of the field in a tree stand. At about 6:05pm this 8 point came out from the end of the field at about 420 yards. It surprised me because it came from behind a house with a tree line separating the fields and of course because of the heat. We watched it as it cut across the field and at almost 3/4 quarters across, it stopped and started walking down to us. My daughter got all excited as we watched the deer for almost an hour. The light was getting dim and fortunately the deer approached us at about 70 yards. She took aim and dropped it in its tracks. It was like the deer had a fate with my daughter that day. She shot it with a Howa .270 using Remington's 50% less recoil ammo. This is her 2nd deer that she has taken but it's her biggest! She is my, "HERO."
