with bow and no arrow - you've got to be kidding me!

Matt - I only recently discovered your show. Thanks for being so bold about your faith - it's an inspiration and I know there are many people looking for the hope you're sharing.

It has been a crazy season in NE KS.
The evening of Oct 2nd I wasn't expecting anything - already there were two does in the freezer. Last year, I once sat for six consecutive hunts without seeing a single deer.
So, obviously, I didn't have high hopes this night. In fact, around 6pm I was about to break out a paperback and here he came, slipping through the cedars to munch on some acorns.
I grabbed for my bow as soon as I saw antlers; fumbling with clipping on the release and with some tension on the string, the arrow popped off, great - I managed to catch it before it fell and re-nocked it.
The deer was standing about 25 yd broadside and when I went to draw my bow, the arrow again fell, this time all the way off and dropped to the ground, sticking straight up.
I think I had an expression of mingled horror and disbelief on my face at this point. Nice buck right in front of me - me, with bow and no arrow - you've got to be kidding me!
To get another arrow, I had to turn my back on the deer, squat down on the stand platform and reach over to the quiver on the tree growing parallel to the one I was in. I was still shaking a little and having visions of watching him walk off like the big one did last year from this same stand.
Can't quite believe I got an arrow nocked a third time. He was about 22 yds, still eating acorns - I drew back and took the shot.

This is where I found him the next day, only 40 yds from where he was shot. He's a symmetrical 10pt and gross scores just over 142.
I'm blessed that he was so fixated on the acorns or I never would have had so many chances.

Keep up the good work with your show.
