I guess I turned my alarm off. By Tony Hawkins (Viewed 235 times)
Well I started the morning by getting up late. I guess I turned my alarm off. I drove 40 minutes to my lease watching the sun coming up in my rearview mirror. Getting more aggravated at myself the whole time. I practically ran to my stand and got set up. I started ranging things with my range finder and got busted right away by a group of does! They stood just out of range blowing like crazy! They finally left. About 10 minutes went by and here comes 2 great big white dogs through the timber barking there heads off! By now I am so mad that I cant hardly stand it! They hung around for about 5 minutes looking for me and then left the area. I sat there trying to calm myself down and finished getting my stuff situated in my stand. Not 5 or 10 minutes later I saw nothing but antlers coming through the trees!! He was right on top of me before I knew it!! With my heart about to beat out of my chest I took the 28 yard shot with my Hoyt Vetrix bow. I sat there for what seemed like forever (about 5 minutes) and went and recovered my arrow. I looked up from where my arrow was and seen a white belly at about 35 to 40 yards away!! What an emotional rollercoaster ride that morning was! The lesson I learned on this day is to try to stay calm even when all odds are against you because you just might end up with a P & Y buck right in front of you! The taxidermist unofficially scored the deer at 128". I hunt in S.E. Oklahoma.
