To many, Friday the 13th is a dreaded day

Dear Closing the Distance,

To many, Friday the 13th is a dreaded day; a day guaranteed to be filled with bad karma, bad luck, and bad juju! Well not this year. I had spent seven hours that morning trying to catch up with some elk to fill my muzzleloader tag with no luck. After rushing back to class my hunting buddy Dane convinced me to go sit the stands for whitetail that evening. Our set up is fairly nasty to get to because of the cold Southeast Idaho weather and we have to wade across a river. It's my first year bowhunting and I simply wanted to shoot a decent buck. I had passed on a few spikes and forks and my friends told me I was crazy and that I should shoot anything my first year. After rattling, this buck showed up 80 yards away and I lured him in with a few bleats and grunts. He disappeared into the willows for a minute and then popped out 15 yards in front of me. I zeroed in behind his shoulder and when he stepped out I let the arrow fly without really looking how big he was. I double lunged him and watched him crash about 50 yards away. My buddy came over and helped me find the arrow and I told him "I think it was a good 8-point". When we found him there was no ground shrinkage because he had 15 points with a two split G3's and gross scored 147 1/2! Everyone tells me this will be the biggest buck I'll ever shoot, but there's plenty of Friday the 13ths coming my way.

Thanks to my wife for being so supportive, to my Creator for everything, and to Closing the Distance for letting me share my story.
